So in this edition of my ramblings we cover all the latest news about B.A.tman or the more creative Batfleck (Baffleck?) and I reveal what made me change my opinion on Ben Affleck as Batman.
But first our daily calisthenics
I care that's why I make you exercise.
First we cover the news.
Ben Affleck is reportedly working out 2 hours a day to hone his physique to the proper proportions to play the Dark Knight. Shooting begins Febuary. I don't know if two hours a day for for a few months is going to be enough, but that's mostly because on my best days I resemble a slightly thinner Jabba the Hut. But Affleck should be good to go by the time the start date rolls around.
There's more details on why Affleck was selected from among seemingly better choices (Josh Brolin for instance), First Affleck accepted the role on the condition he could have a hand in shaping the script. Whether that's good or bad, I don't know, you have to be the judge of that.
Also he has signed for multiple pictures and looks to be in the running to direct the Justice League movie.
Zack Snyder explains pretty simply what he thinks Ben will bring to the table,
“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman, "He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
What is most interesting is that Nolan's name was not mentioned in the press release for the new movie. Leading many to speculate that he is no longer actively involved with the franchise. Which if true would explain why Bale had no interest in returning. Bale has stated that if there is no Nolan then he would not return.
Finally after much soul searching (More like sobbing uncontrollably and throwing violent temper tantrums before throwing myself on my bed and sniffling while snuggling with a teddy bear) I came to the realization that Ben Affleck will make an awesome Batman, particularly after seeing this picture, I coulnd't find the one I was talking about but here is one that is pretty close
Also despite having only seen 4 movies starring Ben Affleck and all of those were from 1998-2003. And not being particularly impressed, It has been 10 years and he has gone through many life changing experiences. A high profile romance that blew in an even more spectacular fashion, honed his filmmaking skills, got married, had a kid and over all seems to have changed from a smug jerk into a pretty likable guy. Fatherhood has changed him for the better I think, and that perspective should help him delve into Batman in awesome Batman.
I for one am looking forward to this movie and can't wait to see it. As such I will monitoring this movie closely. Look for a more detailed opinion piece in the few days as to why I think Affleck will be better than Bale.
